Our Seventh Post -- December 19, 2008

This week was a very exciting week in our classroom. Along with completing our regular math and literacy activities, we also had a Holiday Craft Day and Sing Song. Thank you to all of the parents that planned a craft to complete with the children. The students loved completing these fun activities and learning about different cultural celebrations too! Thank you to Ms. Laporte, Mr. Clemens, and Mrs. Ryan, who also planned and completed a craft with the students. They really enjoyed working with you too! It was great to see so many parents come out and join us for our sing song as well. Thanks for being such great sports and participating in our various songs, including the very popular, Reindeer Pokey. Thanks to Mr. Borean too for also joining us on Thursday for our sing song: the more voices, the better. Check on the Kindergarten Website by the end of the Holiday Break for photographs of the Holiday Craft Day and Sing Song.

Unfortunately, due to the wintery weather, today is a Snow Day, and so we won't be able to have our small holiday celebration with the B Class. Hopefully the children will enjoy the extra day of playing in the snow though. As a fun literacy activity, have your children make a snowman or snow fort, take a photograph of it, and then get your children to write a story about their creation. You can even e-mail us the photographs and stories to add to the Kindergarten Website. This is our attempt at a virtual celebration.

Have a wonderful holiday, and all the best to you in 2009! We can't wait to see everyone again in January!

Our Sixth Post -- December 13, 2008

It was another busy week in our classroom! We finished off the last round of literacy and math centres, and at the end of the week, we introduced new literacy and math centres. This latest round of centres will not finish until the first week back after the holidays. Ask your children about these new centres.

Friday, December 12th was also the Holiday Bazaar. The children were so excited to go to the Bazaar and be responsible for their own holiday shopping. They put a lot of thought into each of their gifts, and we hope that you enjoy them. Talk to them about their rationale for the gifts: they have some very interesting comments to make. Thank you so much to the Holiday Bazaar Committee and the numerous volunteers for putting so many long hours of work into the Bazaar so that it could be such a success!

It is hard to believe that next week is the last week before the holidays. Have a safe and happy holiday! We will not be blogging again until January.

Our Fifth Post -- December 6, 2008

Last week was another busy but exciting week in our classroom. We took both the A and the B Class to Battlefield House and learned all about how people celebrated Christmas long ago. While we were there, the children decorated a gingerbread man cookie, made a Christmas tree ornament (that we will send home next week), played with some old-fashioned toys, and learned a special holiday dance. Thank you so much to all of the wonderful parent volunteers that helped us on these trips! Check out the Photographs link on the Kindergarten Website for some photographs of these exciting trips.

We also continued to complete our literacy and math centres. The children will finish these centres by December 10th, and then we will introduce some exciting new centres. Information about our sixth round of literacy and math centres will be available on the Kindergarten Website by December 14th.

Thank you to all of the parents that also met with us last week for our Parent Observation Interviews. We really enjoyed talking to you about your child. We know that by working together, we can help to ensure that your child meets his/her full potential. If you have any questions about your child's progress, please let us know.

We look forward to another great week next week!
